Tokyo, Japan's Bridges: Tobu Railway Bridge across the Sumida River (3)

June 2011 (35.712 Degrees, 139.801 Degrees) Tobu Railway Bridge
Looking upstream at the Tobu Railway Bridge (with the Kototoi Bridge in the distance). I believe this structure is a Warren Truss with vertical members. I remember when I took statics many years ago we would obtain the forces in truss members by making the forces and moments at a joint equal to zero. Or we would cut the truss into convenient shapes and see if we could solve for the resulting free body diagram. The governing assumption was that all the members had pinned connections, which seems unrealistic when you look at those big gusset plates holding the truss together.
